Vintage dark wood wardrobe with carved doors, hanging rail and shelves

Vintage dark wood wardrobe with two tall panelled doors, decorative metal strap hinges and ring-pull handles. The front has a particularly characterful carved frieze of shield-shaped panels and scrolling foliage beneath the cornice, with stud detailing running across the upper and lower door sections. Its narrow, upright footprint and shaped plinth base give it a compactum-style feel rather than the bulk of a modern wardrobe.

Inside, the left-hand side is arranged for hanging clothes, with a metal hanging rail fixed to the inside of the door and a full-height hanging space. The right-hand side has open shelves plus two small labelled drop-front compartments marked “Shirts” and “Pyjamas”, both with black round pulls. The warm brown interior has visible striped grain and a darker base shelf.

Condition is well used and in keeping with its age. There are clear scuffs, scratches, finish wear and small marks to the doors, edges and interior, most noticeable low down and around the base. The decorative hardware is present and adds to its period character. A useful single wardrobe for a bedroom, guest room or hallway where extra hanging and folded storage is needed.
