Its irregular octagons appear as corner vignettes within the Queen's Drawing Room at Hampton Court Palace, the decoration of which was commissioned by Queen Anne as a grand statement of her royal majesty and imperial power.
The murals as a whole were designed to create the illusion of a marble hall open to the sky, with the walls painted to look like tapestries with wide floral borders and gold fringes.
